this show proves that i am old. look it up on the gay dictionary. oldies? i thought so. anyway i thought i had so much to say about this one but it so happened that there are still active fan sites on the net that had so much information so i felt i had no righ to include this in my list. then as i browsed through the site, i realized that i may have only snippets left of this cartoon in my memory but when i recalled that i would shout on the top of my lungs THUNDER THUNDER THUNDERCATS HOOOOO!!!, well i needed no further thinking. i was like the four year old son of one of the makers of a fan site.
wikipedia mentioned four seasons of the show. i only recollect at most two. maybe they cut it short here so i haven't seen the concluding episode. aside from the cartoons, there were action figures and comic books. i have not seen one here, maybe in collector shops.
the original thundercats were lion-o - the wielder of the sword of omens, panthro - the mechanic and engineer, tygra - the most cunning thundercat and owner of an exploding whip, cheetara - no doubt the fastest, wilykit and wilykat - twin young cats both agile and immature, and snarf - a cowardly but dependable comrade. out to get them were the mutants and mumm-ra who transforms into one horrible monster. lion-o wields the sword of omens which in one episode was proven inferior to king arthur's excalibur. more characters were added as the show progressed as shown in this photo.
so i haven't seen the concluding episode which is sad but it mattered not at that time. it was a cartoon. it was fun. period.
i think there are rumors of a movie version. hmmmm. nice nice.
p.s. my thanks to wikipedia, thundecats lair, and the ultimate thundercats webpage for the photos and info.
